How a small Croatian NGO became a symbol of solidarity.
DOBRO DOBRIM (DoDo) is a Croatian humanitarian organization founded in 2021, dedicated to supporting families living at risk of poverty and social exclusion. Our operations span the entire Republic of Croatia and extend to Ukraine.
Our name comes from a Croatian proverb meaning “a good deed will be returned with another good deed” — a philosophy we live by every single day.
In 2021, devastating earthquakes struck the Zagreb and Sisak-Moslavina County regions. DOBRO DOBRIM redirected its focus toward the earthquake-affected areas, building temporary shelters, family homes, barns, and coops for survivors who had lost everything.
Through the “Banijska koliba” project, we built 7 houses and 5 shelters for families left homeless by the earthquake. In the village of Roviška, we launched EKOTOPIA — a bio-organic cooperative with 7 cooperators — as a step toward long-term regional recovery.
For this work, we were honored with the prestigious “Nada Dimić” award on June 25, 2021, recognizing our extraordinary contribution to the community.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, DOBRO DOBRIM has pivoted to provide active support for people affected by the war. We collect and deliver donations to hospitals, children's homes, monasteries, and refugee centers across Ukraine.
On average, we dispatch one vehicle every three days. By October 2024, we sent our 200th humanitarian convoy to Ukraine. Croatia ranks 2nd in the world (per capita) in sending civilian humanitarian aid to Ukraine — and our association has been a driving force behind that.
Animals are victims of disasters and wars just like people. In July 2023, we delivered 1,300 kg of food, medicine and supplies to the “Selidovo” animal protection organization in the Donetsk region, supporting approximately 400 animals in the war zone.
